Theater seating and theatrical layout for the renovation of a former church
San Filippo Theater
Located in the heart of L’Aquila’s historic center, the San Filippo Theater represents one of the most significant cultural restoration projects carried out following the 2009 earthquake. Originally a 17th-century Baroque church, the building has been restored and converted into a theater, returning to the city a historic venue intended for performances, cultural events, and public initiatives.
As part of this cultural restoration project, LCF contributed to the theatrical layout of the hall with the supply and installation of theater seating and stage elements designed to blend with the historic architecture of the nave and side chapels.
Theater seating for the stalls and side chapels
For the stalls, 168 K1000 model theater seats were installed, upholstered in fire-resistant red velvet—a classic solution for theaters and auditoriums that combines elegance, comfort, and high safety standards for public venues.
To complete the hall, 12 K1000 model theater seats in single self-supporting configuration were placed in the side chapels of the central nave. These freestanding theater seats enhance the building’s original architectural spaces, integrating the new stage functions within the historic structure while allowing flexible placement.
Theatrical drapes, stage curtain, and custom stage equipment
LCF’s work also included the creation of the main theatrical setup elements, essential for the functionality of the hall:
Theatrical curtain with its handling mechanics, Side Harlequins, Coordinated theatrical curtains.
Given the unique architectural configuration of the former church, custom metal structures were designed and fabricated to allow the proper installation of the stage curtain and arched valance, ensuring stability and integration with the existing structures.
Controlling natural light in the nave
To improve the conditions of use of the hall during performances and events, LCF also provided blackout films for the upper windows of the nave, helping to control natural light and manage stage lighting.
A project balancing historical restoration and theatrical functionality
The San Filippo Theater project represents a significant example of the restoration of a historic building converted into a theater, where the design of the spaces and furnishings had to reconcile respect for the original architecture with the requirements of a modern performance hall.
Through the supply of theater seating and stage setup solutions in harmony with the existing architecture, the project helped return to the city a cultural space capable of hosting performances, events, and public initiatives within a highly valuable architectural context.
